Eddie came into my life when I was at my lowest as a birthday present from my dad in early 2020. He was my first dog, but he played a significant role in making me the person I am today. I often tell people that Eddie saved my life because I genuinely don't believe I would be here without him. Without fail, Eddie was my number one supporter and gave me his all.

    When I made the decision to utilize a service dog for my health issues after Eddie was brought home, he was eager to help in any way he could. He assisted me through my last semester of college and loved training. I have met some of my closest friends in this community through the various sports and activities Eddie and I leaped into together.

    Unfortunately, Eddie retired from service work too soon. His career was cut short, and he washed after only a year due to what we now know were early signs of genetic neurological issues. He was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in early 2024, and by 2025 his behavior was becoming more erratic and his mental condition continued to deteriorate. Eddie made it clear he was done fighting, and after two years of training, cooperative care, various veterinary specialists, and dozens of medications he was ready to cross the rainbow bridge. Eddie passed peacefully in my arms surrounded by people he loved. I never left his side just like he never left mine, and he will always be my beloved best friend.

 

    Eddie is the result of a negligent and haphazard breeding for financial gain, and he suffered both mentally and physically as a result. Experiencing firsthand the dangerous side effects of unethical breeders is why I am a huge advocate for preserving well-bred, pure-bred dog breeds. Eddie is why I am so passionate about ethical breeding. He was my first service dog, my first sport dog, and most importantly my best friend. Eddie earned a total of 26 titles from AKC, UKC, BHA, and NADD. His legacy will never be forgotten at Cardinalis.
